"The Yellow Wallpaper" by Charlotte Perkins Gillman

A husband and wife go to a house near the sea to improve the wife's mental condition, but she finds something strange about the wallpaper.

This is probably the most recommended short story ever, but am I going to recommend it again, not least because it features the greatest use of the word creep in the English language. Knocks me out every time!
